Whale Watching!

Another early start and David went out to pick up our hire car for the next week while I packed up the bags. We left the hotel and drove to Granville Island where we went to the market to get some lunch for our Whale watching trip. We went to the Whale Adventures office to check in then headed down to the boat dock. We headed out down to the strait of Georgia to see if we could find anything. All of the whale tour companies work together to search different areas and then feedback to each other if they see any whale action. Pretty soon we heard that some Orcas had been spotted and so we headed that way. Ava fell asleep almost as soon as we set off but whee we spotted the whale pod we woke her up to see them. There was a pod of 5 whales very close to us and we watched them for a while until we realised that they were feeding on some seals. They were coming up for air then going back down to feed so we got a lot of great shots. We hung round there for quite a while, they tended to go down for 5-10 minutes then would surface again somewhere close by so we would head over to watch them again.

After a while we started to head back to the mainland but they captain heard over the radio that a pod of humpbacks had been spotted so we headed over to see them.
