France – Tom’s First Holiday!

Well Tom is five & a half months old now so definitely ready for his first holiday and it’s been a good 7 months since Ava got her last flag. So we’re off for a few days to the south of France! We decided to use a few of our BA points to book reward flights and stay at the hotel David stayed in recently when he went to Cannes for a conference. It was a late afternoon flight from Newcastle to London Heathrow then onto Nice just after 8pm. It helped being able to use the BA executive lounge in Newcastle and Heathrow and I think we can safely say we got our money’s worth!

The kids were fantastic the whole journey. I couldn’t have been more proud of them. They both slept pretty much the full flight to Nice. It was a bit tricky getting off the flight, especially when they were both tired and sleepy and Nice won’t let you have the pushchair brought to the aircraft doors, but once we’d negotiated our way through the airport, onto a bus and a rather long walk to the car rental place we were at the hotel in no time. Check in was speedy and the hotel, called Le Grand, looks very impressive from the outside. Ava was overjoyed to find a little cuddly frog and bear on her bed, along with a bib and a baby towel which was a very nice touch.

The room was huge and pretty soon we had all fallen into bed. Highlight of my day though was when we were in the hire car driving to Cannes. I said, “Ava we’re in a new country now. This is France. The people here speak French. They say Bonjour Ava, bonjour Tom, which means hello. Avas reply. Just like Delphine Donkey! Who says Peppa Pig isn’t educational!!? Brilliant. X
